At parties or events, you can spice things up with a cool trick: Name Cards.
Unlike traditional name tags, these cards serve as a dynamic tool for creating connections and sparking meaningful conversations.
Here are the things you should know about these name cards:
- Personalized: list down names of people that each guest should meet. Think shared interests, matching personalities, or potential network.
- Real Time: Create these cards on the spot to allow adaptability. And ensure that every guest who receives it has a personalized experience.
- Content of the Card: You need a 4x 6 inches note cards and use a handy Sharpie marker for the details. Put the guest’s name at the top, underneath, write two or three potential conversation buddies.
- Keep it Simple: Don’t stress about making cards for everyone. Pick a handful, maybe five, ten or fifteen folks who could hit it off. Each card is like a special invitation, explaining why these people should meet.
- Hand it Over: Here’s the personal touch– physically give the cards to your guests. Tell them why they should meet these people.

Q: So, I made a card for you last time. How did it go? Did you enjoy the experience?
Maddie: It was so great. It was like Nick was playing matchmaker with me, and then I had a reason to go talk to these people that I wouldn’t have talked to otherwise. And you had some revealing things on the card, and I had some amazing, really vulnerable conversations.
Q: If we were to give advice for people to try to do these cards themselves at their party, you mentioned that I listed some vulnerable things.
Maddie: Somebody was going through a breakup, and it was mentioned in private on the card, and so that was helpful. I’d say use discretion and use your intuition in writing what’s on the cards, but feel free to have a bit of fun.
Q: one thing that I’m thinking of is, at the last party, I didn’t make it for everybody, just certain people. Would the experience be weird if you didn’t receive a card, or if somebody didn’t get one? It’s okay, right?
Maddie: I think it’s okay. If somebody else here had a card, I wouldn’t think anything of it.
